Chris and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary last weekend. He surprised me with dinner at Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, NC and an overnight stay at a bed and breakfast in nearby New Bern. It felt like a miniature vacation, which was absolutely blissful. I gave him a print by his favorite local artist in Knoxville. Continue reading “year one, done”
Stupidly, we did not take any photos of our adorable little apartment in Paris. I did, however, record a short video to send to our parents and siblings, which I’m sharing with you today. Continue reading “our piece of paris: video tour”
We freaking loved Hamburg. Everyone was super friendly and generally very happy. Young people comprise a majority of Hamburg’s population, which was nice for us. The general vibe of Hamburg felt relaxed and genuine. You’re probably asking, why Hamburg, though? Continue reading “#millersinhamburg”
I talk about food probably more than any other subject on this blog. That’s sort of strange for me considering I’m not a cook and I’m not really a foodie, although clearly I love food. Therefore I feel it is only right to share with you the pictures from the restaurants at which we dined. Also, I did not want to bombard everyone with 30 pictures in one post. Posting these makes me sad I’m not on vacation anymore :(
P.S. Trying out a new layout for the pics. Seems to be cleaner and easier to see. Click on the images to view them full screen in a gallery set up.

As you may well have guessed my family and I are back from our vacation on Sanibel Island. Our bellies are full, are skin is tanned (with a few noseeum bites), and our memories fond. My mom’s brother and his family down there as well so we ate dinner with them most nights. Does it seem like every time I discuss Sanibel I also talk about the food we ate there? If so, there is good reason. We did not have a bad meal I tell ya. Not one! From Cheeburger Cheeburger to The Lazy Flamingo to tacos in the condo our stomachs and tastebuds were well satisfied. I won’t drone on about the food though because obviously I have no recipes to show you and even if I did I am sure they wouldn’t turn out as well.

Not much to report so far! I’ve taken a few pics (of the beach mostly), but nothing exciting. Of course just being at the beach is exciting for me. I did ride my bike today in search of another book. I finished The Road (McCarthy) on the ride down and read Catcher in the Rye (Salinger) in 3 days. Unfortunately, I left my newest book purchases, Anna Karenina (Tolstoy) and East of Eden (Steinbeck), at home. I did find a used book store on the Island and picked up The Three Weissmanns of Westport. I’ve been wanting to read it so it wasn’t like a “filler book.” Follow me on Goodreads to see what else I’ve been reading and how I rate the books I’ve read!
