I did it! I actually completed a furniture makeover, with a little help from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Continue reading to see the before/after and my sweet Craigslist find.
One of the many wonderful things about Pinterest and the blogosphere is the amount of inspiration they provide me. Before 2011 I had little to no interest in DIY projects, much less cooking or home decor. Now that I have both a blog and Pinterest account, I’m constantly looking for new recipes to try or ways to decorate my apartment. There is an unrealistic side to the loveliness found on the internet, though. For instance, I will never be the ultimate hostess who whips up beautiful cocktails and Gwyneth Paltrow style meals in my fabulous, all white rustic-meets-modern kitchen while my children play in their sophisticated, clean, too-perfect-to-be-real rooms with enough DIY elements to make you sick. (Woah, that was a run-on sentence if I ever wrote one…) Back to my point: Pinterest and blogs are wonderful sources of creativity and must be approached with realistic expectations.
That being said, I think my piece turned out well! It’s nothing spectacular, but I’m proud to call it my first real DIY-project.
Oh, and here is my super awesome Craigslist find. I’ve been looking for a vintage trunk since last year. This one is exactly what I wanted! Only paid $70 for this baby too. I’m thinking maybe a coffee table or just storage for blankets etc….
looks great. :-)
